Regional Arts program award winners named

MONROE - The 2009 Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP) daylong workshop was held February 28 at the Monroe Arts Center, and the State and Honorable Mention award winners were announced. Special guest artist and judge, Dunnell Kendrick-Parker of New Glarus, chose a total of 20 artists to receive these special awards. This was the 22nd consecutive year the Monroe Arts Center hosted this program for non-professional artists. This program is co-sponsored by the UW-Madison Department of Liberal Studies.

The State Award recipients were: Roger Dorneden, Apple River; Charlotte Heikkinen, Clinton; Barbara Mathews, Janesville; Mike McKinnon, Janesville; Nancy McKinnon, Janesville; Richard Montgomery, Warren; Adair Najat, Monroe; Darra Porter, Brodhead; Eleanor Reynolds, Dodgeville; and Jackie Wyss, Monroe.

Artists given Honorable Mention awards were: Jeanne Ausmus, Monroe; Eunice Bethke, Madison; C.K. Chang, Madison; Mary Cuff, Stoughton; Terry Doeler, Monona; Barbara Leonard, Janesville; Edith Miller, Brodhead; Davis Scheiffel, McFarland; Joan Stackpole, Monroe; and Phyllis J. Wendt, Freeport.

All State Award winning artworks selected at each of the 24 Wisconsin regional exhibit locations this past year will again be juried at the Annual State Art Exhibition and Conference on Saturday, September 19, at the Pyle Center in Madison.

The Wisconsin Regional Artists Association, private individuals and local art clubs fund the numerous cash and service awards presented at the State Conference.

These awards include the James Schwalbach Creativity Award, Lodi Art Club Award, Ada Biddick Award, Lakeland Art League Award, Certificate of Merit Awards, and many others.
