MADISON - American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive in several areas in the next few weeks.

"Donating blood is one of the simplest things you can do to help save a patient's life," said Greg Novinska, CEO of the Red Cross Badger-Hawkeye Blood Services Region. "For the hour it takes to give blood, there could be a whole community of people thankful for another birthday you have given to their loved one."

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:

• 11:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 22, Monroe Community Blood Drive at United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall 2227 4th St., Monroe;

• 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, American Red Cross South Central Wisconsin Chapter Blood Drive at 211 N. Parker, Janesville;

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, March 29 and 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, Janesville Community Blood Drive at Church of Christ, Fellowship Hall 2103 Roxbury Rd., Janesville.

To make an appointment or for more information call (800) 448-3543 or visit givebloodgivelife.org.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
