NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus Historical Society invites the public to a free reception from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday celebrating the reopening of the fire house at the Swiss Historical Village and Museum, 612 7th Ave., New Glarus.

One of 14 buildings that comprise the Swiss Historical Village and Museum, the fire house tells the story of the New Glarus Fire Department from its origins in 1902 and honors the long-standing service of local volunteers across generations.

Thanks to recent financial donations, the fire house's exhibits, lighting and signage have been enhanced over the past several months to better showcase the vehicles, artifacts and equipment on display. The New Glarus Fire District and Fire Department has provided ongoing assistance in preserving this aspect of local history.

The New Glarus Historical Society operates the Swiss Historical Village and Museum to share the unique history of New Glarus. The museum is open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week from May to Oct. 15. Visit the website www.swisshistoricalvillage.org for more information.
