ORLANDO, Fla. - Members of the American Emu Association's Board of Directors attended the 2009 annual American Emu Association (AEA) National Convention in July in Orlando, Florida. AEA board members spent six days at the convention with three days in board meetings. The national convention was held at the Hawthorn Suites Airport Hotel in Orlando.
The 2010 National AEA Convention will be held next year in mid-July at Des Moines, Iowa.
The 2009-2010 officers who were elected just before the start of the convention include Joylene Reavis, Brodhead, secretary; I. Mike Eppley, Berlin, Pa., president; Clover Quinn, Hamilton, Mont., vice-president; Deitra McCleery, San Angelo, Texas, treasurer; Walter Bishop, Claremore, Okla., parliamentarian; Cyril Klein, Cedar Falls, Iowa, director; Betty Lou Cauffman, Fennimore, director; and Dee Dee Mares, Gill, Mass., director.
Besides listening to the speakers, board members met several days in board meetings and, along with convention attendees, participated in the Accredited Emu Producers (AEP) certification program offered by the AEA. "Members really appreciate the educational opportunities offered by this program," said Joylene Reavis, AEA secretary and region No. 3 director and Wisconsin Emu Association (WIEA) president. "These classes help to keep us up to date on the many areas of the emu industry."
Reavis attended all of the Accredited Emu Producer (AEP) classes which included Making Money in the Emu Industry, Farm Processing, Marketing Principles, Raising Emus and Emu Egg Carving.
