MONROE - Try a little sausage with your Cheese Days this year.

The Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club's Famous Racing Sausages will be leading the way when area dogs put their Paws on Parade in the Swiss Colony Cheese Day Parade Sunday, Sept. 21. Paws on Parade is the Green County Humane's Society entry in the giant parade - an entry that will feature a brigade of marching dachshunds, dogs available for adoption and even the Monroe Police Department.

Walking with the four canine contingencies in the parade will be the larger-than-life sausages famous for entertaining baseball fans with their hilarious antics at Miller Park in Milwaukee. With their hilarious antics, the Famous Racing Sausages are sure to be a crowd favorite. Big Radio will be along with PAWS ON PARADE to keep the beat and the Monroe High School Cheerleaders promise to get everyone on their feet. Assistance will be provided by Monroe Rebel Soccer and the Monroe Theatre Guild.

Anyone interested in joining the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club's Famous Racing Sausages in the Paws on Parade can register with GCHS. The society plans to have at least 150 dogs in honor of Monroe's Sesquicentennial being marked this year.

Dogs of all breeds, sizes and shapes are invited to join the fun. Canine participants will be divided by category into four different waves for the parade:

• Dogs currently being sheltered at the GCHS animal shelter

• Alumni dogs that have been adopted through the GCHS

• Marching dachshunds

• Support dogs (dogs from the community marching in support of the GCHS mission)

To register, call the shelter at 325-9600. People who don't have a dog but would like to participate may volunteer to walk one of the shelter dogs.

GCHS operates a no-kill animal shelter at 1500 6 1/2 Ave. in Monroe. Hours of operation are from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. It is closed Monday, Wednesday and holidays. More information about the shelter is available on the GCHS Web site at www.greencountyhumane.org.
