“Pulling Together: A Handbook for Community Change” is helping communities work together with shared assets and people participation to bring about positive change. Yost will share some amazing success stories, highlighting the work of the Nebraska Community Foundation with a specific focus on the transfer of generational wealth in communities. The main focus will also refer to the power of communities working together through foundations, and ‘pulling together’ to better grow the community.
“Be the change you want to see in the world”
Change can seem like a scary word for some, while others look at it as a way of bringing new opportunities to fruition. The guidelines for such a phrase are the topics of discussion in the recent book release, “‘Pulling Together’ A Handbook For Community Change.”
The book is a collaboration of the coming together of two like-minded people. “‘Pulling Together’ A Handbook For Community Change”, has been written by Mike Breininger of Richland Center, and Tom Mosgaller of Verona. Both authors are interested in helping communities pull together to bring forth the changes needed to better the areas in which they live and work.
The message of the discussion will be applying Yost’s message into the “Pulling Together” theme of how communities can build relationships and see amazing changes take place when they use the framework from the book. The goal of the framework is to help individuals create enough desire, vision, and power, built through strong relationships and meaningful action, to overcome the resistance that can stand in the way of making positive changes in their community.
The authors of “Pulling Together”, Tom Mosgaller and Mike Breininger, will share their acclaimed insight. In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to purchase the book and companion handbook, “Pulling Together: A Handbook for Community Change” at every location in which Yost will speak while on tour. The efforts made are done to promote collaboration to bring good ideas to reality.
Three powerful questions in the workbook helps to point communities in the right direction of positive change.
The first question asks ‘What can we do ourselves, right now, right here, with what we have?’ In other words, what gifts does everyone involved have or possess abilities to? It helps to guide those most involved in putting in the work, requiring little to no effort in gathering of resources.
The second question is ‘What can we do with a little help?’ This asks those who are most involved in the change to look for others close to them and who are willing to help. What gifts and abilities do those individuals bring to the situation?
The final of the three questions asks ‘What do we need others to do for us?’ This final question is applied after the help has been given from those most involved in the project at hand. This could range from monetary donations, legislative or professional assistant to whatever the reach may be to bring further change.
There will be a follow-up workshop, starting at 9:30 a.m., where the discussion will explore lessons on investing in the local community, and building a culture that keeps wealth rooted in local communities. The discussion “Learning about Transfer of Wealth” will talk more about the Nebraska program. In addition, the conversation will also cover Green County’s current local investments, as well as discuss opportunities for further investment in Green County. This will be a practical time that will not disappoint. There will be room for discussion from those in attendance. Events such as these are brought to Green County to offer practical strategies and inspiring stories for building better communities. Participation from the businesses and the community is strongly encouraged.
