MONROE - The Monroe Public Library will host Cool Movies for Hot Days, a free movie series for children and families, on Wednesday afternoons starting July 31 at the library, 925 16th Ave.
One showing of each film is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Viewers can bring their own drinks and snacks along with quilts, bean bags or floor pillows so they can sit back and enjoy the show.
The series will open on July 31 with "Wreck it Ralph," the famous video arcade bad guy who sets out to prove to everyone that he is indeed a true hero with a big heart. The movie is rated PG and is 100 minutes.
The next Cool Movie will take place on Aug. 7 and will feature "Brave." Merida, the headstrong daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor, is determined to carve her own path in life and defies an age-old custom of the land. The movie is rated PG and is 90 minutes.
The last movie of the summer will be shown on Aug. 14 and will feature "Despicable Me." Vying for the title of "World's Greatest Villain," Gru, along with his crew of minions, plots to pull off the craziest crime of the century; steal the moon. The movie is rated PG and is 95 minutes.
The Youth Services Department of the Monroe Public Library requests that children age 6 and under be accompanied by an adult or caregiver.
