MONROE - Green County United Prevention Professionals for Youth (G.U.P.P.Y) is pleased to announce the hiring of Sinem T. Bertling as the new local coordinator for the Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Program in Green County. Bertling began her new position on Oct. 24.
The Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Grant was awarded to G.U.P.P.Y in the summer of 2006. This three year grant opportunity will assist local youth and community members to become more aware of the risk factors that correlate with suicide in our communities.
Bertling said the suicide and depression prevention and intervention activities have been successfully continuing in Green County school districts since 2006. The program is planning to train more students, staff and parents on youth suicide-depression risk factors and prevention.
