RODHEAD — The Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy and local conservation partners are bringing their ‘Sunflower Truck” to the Fire and Ice Festival Dec. 7 and 8 in downtown Brodhead.
The bright yellow truck will appear in the parade and will be filled with 30-pound bags of sunflower bird seed harvested from the Three Waters Reserve, the former “front nine” of the Decatur Lake Golf Course.
The seed, along with 16-ounce bottles of freshly-pressed edible sunflower oil from the same harvest, will be available for sale after the parade as part of a fundraiser to restore native plant communities and develop public trails on the reserve.
The purchase of each 30-pound bag of seed or bottle of oil will come with a ticket to redeem at the cozy Halfway Cafe on the square for a hot chocolate. Other local nonprofit organizations, food producers and businesses participating with SWLC in the fundraiser will share proceeds to help fund the reserve restoration and other local conservation projects.
Individuals, organizations and businesses interested in participating in the fundraiser or in purchasing seed or oil for themselves or as holiday gifts can contact Steve Apfelbaum at 608-897-8641 or steve@appliedeco.com. Gift cards are available.
