MONROE — The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department held it’s annual conservation poster contest. There were 44 entries in four different age categories. Posters were evaluated on the following criteria: conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, universal appeal, and individual artwork.
In the 2nd — 3rd grade category, Charlotte Stuessy was first, Ivy Mickibben, second, and Caspian McCarthy, third. All three attend St. Victors school in Monroe,
In the 4th — 6th grade category, Pearl Hillary of St. Victors was first, Oliver Hardacre, also of St. Victors, second, and Elena Boston, of Albrecht Middle School in Brodhead, third.
In the 7th — 9th grade category, Telina Gratz was first, and Teresa Gratz, second. Both attend Monroe Middle School.
In the 10th — 12th grade category, Sophia Roth received first. She is homeschooled.
The top poster in each category moved on to the eleven county Southern Area competition. Pearl Hillary and Sophia Roth each got first place in their division.
Their posters then moved on to the state competition, where posters from each of the eight areas in Wisconsin had posters represented. Both of their posters received second place in their respective division.
