DARLINGTON - The Darlington Safe Routes to School taskforce, in conjunction with the Darlington Girl Scouts, will host a Bike Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds. There will be several hands-on stations at the rodeo to test children's skill levels and to educate children about potential threats while biking. Children need to bring their bikes and helmets with them in order to participate. For those who may not have a helmet, free helmets will be given out while supplies last.

In addition to skill stations, children can expect to learn how to properly wear a helmet, all bikes will be inspected for potential defects, and there will be a child I.D. fingerprinting station hosted by Tricor Insurance and AAA.

Children will be invited to decorate their bikes and participate in a bike parade at 1:15 p.m.. A free lunch will be provided by Wiota Happy Hour 4-H and Brandt Family 4-H. There will also be a drawing for two free bikes. Children of all ages along with their parents are welcome.

The event is sponsored by the Optimist Club of Darlington, Lions Club, DEMS Student Council, Dave Meister CPA, Family Health of Lafayette County, Johnson Public Library, and the Darlington Police Department.
