Picnic held to celebrate literacy day

MONROE - The Literacy Council of Green County, Ltd will celebrate Literacy Awareness Day by recognizing their tutors and learners and promoting literacy for all. Supported by Verizon's "Check Into Literacy" program and Wisconsin Literacy, the Literacy Council of Green County Ltd. will have a family picnic at the Monroe United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 20.Wisconsin's Literacy Awareness Day coincides with International Literacy Day, Sept. 8.This year, International Literacy Day will put the spotlight on the empowering role of literacy and its importance for participation, citizenship and social development.
