Pickleball, painting, dancing among senior center events

MONROE - The Behring Senior Center is sponsoring several special events and classes through July. All events and classes are for persons age 55 or older.

Pickleball is a game resembling tennis in which players use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net. A pickleball class will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Twining Park tennis courts. The cost is $10. The instructor will be Brian Saugstad.

A "Men's Day Outing" will be at noon Tuesday at Suisse Haus restaurant, followed by a trip to the Toy Train Barn, W9141 Wisconsin 81, Argyle. Lunch is at noon; the barn tour is at 1:30 p.m. The cost for lunch and transportation to the barn is $5. Admission to the barn is separate. Women also are welcome.

A mixed media painting class will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. July 6 at the Behring Senior Center. The cost of $35 includes all supplies. The instructor will be Tracy Signer. Sign up to get step-by-step instructions and have a finished canvas to take home. Learn new techniques and add personal touches so the project reflects your own unique style. All skill levels are welcome.

An intermediate level line dancing class will be held from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Thursdays from July 7 through Aug. 25 at the Center. The cost is $10. For those who already know how to line dance, join instructor Barb Schroeder and have a great time advancing your dancing skills.

An AARP drivers safety class will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 20 at the Center. The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members (paid to the instructor). You must bring your AARP membership card to receive the class discount. This class is a review of the road rules and designed to be a classroom refresher course. Participants do not do any actual driving. Check with your insurance company to see if any discounts are available for taking the course.

Jessica Michna will make a presentation as Laura Ingalls Wilder at 1:30 p.m. July 20 at Behring Senior Center. Michna will speak on the life and times of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of "Life in the Big Woods" and other popular books. She will bring the characters to life in a real and detailed way. This is a free program for anyone 55 and over, with no need to register.
