Pianist to perform at concert

FREEPORT - Award-winning pianist Hye-Young Kim will be performing works by Chopin in a free concert at 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at First United Methodist Church, 503 N. Lily Creek Road.

Kim, a protégé of Kenneth Drake, earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Illinois and has performed in Europe, Asia and the U.S. She has won several international piano competitions and made her debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in New York City as winner of the American Protégé International Music Competition. She is presently employed at Texas A&M University and is a pianist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra of Texas.
