MONROE - The Friends of the Pecatonica River Foundation will host an informational meeting on starting a canoe and kayak club in southwestern Wisconsin and northwestern Illinois at 7 p.m. tonight, March 29 and at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.
The meeting will determine interest in forming a paddling club in the stateline region. There are more than 565 registered canoes and kayaks in Stephenson County; more than 5,500 in the six county region of northwestern Illinois; and at least 5,000 in the six-county region of southwestern Wisconsin. The discussion will cover learning a the sport and points of access on the Pecatonica, Sugar, Rock, Kishwaukee, Platte, Plum and other rivers in the area.
The American Canoe Association will give the presentation.
