MONROE - Parkside School's computer lab was a busy place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 6, as English Language Learners parents and their school-age children attended a computer workshop.
Rebecca Sukanen, Parkside's ELL teacher, wanted a learning experience that provided an opportunity for parents and their children to learn and work together. The computer lab provided something for everyone. There were 11 families and 32 participants.
Parents sat with their children as they taught their parents how to use their reading and math programs.
Parents also had an opportunity to have basic-user computer lessons, send e-mails, Goggle, utilize the Rosetta Stone Program for English lessons, access the International Digital Children's Library, and view a Monroe School District online summer school registration demonstration.
Monroe district employee Cathy Timm logged in parents and showed them how to access their student's records. Sukanen and Timm volunteered their time and used their grant money to pay for a district tech specialist, Justin L. Myers, and a translator, Joann Lancaster.
