MONROE — The Monroe Parks & Recreation Department has openings in several summer programs:


Preschool Swim Lessons 

Swim lessons for children 3-5 years old who do not fear the water and will work with an instructor on learning to submerge themselves. Classes are Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for make-up sessions due to inclement weather. 


Skippers 1 

Ages 3-4. Session 1: June 17–June 27, 12-12:30 p.m.; Session 2: July 22–Aug. 1, 12-12:30 p.m.


Skippers 2 

Ages 4-5. Session 1: July 8-18, 12-12:30 p.m.; Session 2: Aug 5-15, 12:15-12:45 p.m.


Summer Volleyball Skills 

Students entering 3rd–9th grades will work 30 minutes on skills and drills and play games for 45 minutes. Wednesdays, June 12-July 24 (no volleyball on July 3) 6:30-7:45 p.m. at Northside Elementary School gym.


Kickball, Dodgeball, Gaga Ball and Pool Fun 

This class includes a variety of activities. Attendees will play a variety of kickball and dodgeball and then go to the pool from 2:45-4 p.m. The group will then go back to Swiss Alps at 4 p.m. to play and parents may pick children up at the shelter. For ages 6-10, Tuesdays, July 9-Aug 13, 1-4:30 p.m. Location: Rec Park North shelter. 


Art in the Park and Pool Fun 

Children 6-10 years old can tap into their creative side while working on different art projects on Wednesdays, July 10-Aug 14 from 1-4:15 p.m. at Recreation Park North Shelter. The group will spend some time at the pool each day and finish playing at Swiss Alps.


Lego fun in the Sun and Pool Fun 

Each week, groups will complete a different Lego theme for boys and girls. Various stations will be set up weekly and children will do Lego building and pool fun. Children ages 6-10 will meet on Thursdays, July 11-Aug 15 from 1-4:30 p.m. at Recreation Park North Shelter. 


Tiny Tot Tennis Lessons 

This is for boys and girls ages 4K-5K, come with a babysitter or parent. Instructor is Brad Saugstad. Recreation Park Tennis Courts at 8-8:45 a.m. on Monday – Thursday (Friday is rainout day). Session 1: July 15-18 (July 19 is rain day); Session 2: July 22-25 (July 26 is rain day).

All programs do require registrations. Parents may register online or by stopping down to the Parks & Recreation office, lower level of City Hall.
