Coach George Yoder helps out at Parks and Rec Flag Football program. This year, Parks and Rec will offer flag football and the YMCA will offer youth basketball.

MONROE — Monroe Parks and Recreation Department and the YMCA have decided that Park and Rec will offer all flag football programs for children in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Monroe, and the YMCA will now offer all youth basketball programs in Monroe. Co-ed NFL Flag Football registration is going on now.  The deadline to register is Aug. 24.  Register by this date to receive a reversible NFL Flag jersey.

Ages: Kindergarten through first grade co-ed, second and third grade co-ed, fourth and fifth grade co-ed and sixth through eighth grade co-ed.

Fee includes reversible NFL replica jersey.

First practices are as follows: All Kindergarten and first graders will practice from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Rec Park. Second and third graders will practice from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Rec Park. Fourth and fifth graders will practice from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Rec Park. Sixth through eighth graders will practice from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Rec Park. 

Additional Practices will be scheduled by the volunteer coaches and students will receive a practice schedule the first night.

Game schedule: Kindergarten through third graders will play games from Sept. 13 to Oct. 11 on Thursday nights at Twining Park. Fourth through eighth graders will play from Sept. 11 to Oct. 9 on Tuesday nights at the MHS football field and Twining Park. Game schedules will be handed out at the first practices. Volunteer coaches are needed for all ages.  There will be a coach meeting for each age group in the basement of the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St.

Coaches meetings for kindergarten and first grade will be from 5:30 to 6:30 Aug. 30; second and third grade will be from 6:30 to 7:30 Aug. 30; fourth and fifth grade from 5:30 to 6:30 Aug. 28 and sixth through eighth grade from 6:30 to 7:30 Aug. 28.

Football with the Cheesemakers: The one-day program Football with the Cheesemakers will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Aug. 28 at the high school practice field (rain site, MHS gym) for fifth through eighth graders. Meet and complete drills will be done with the Cheesemakers. Everyone will receive a Campion’s Champions t-shirt sponsored by Colony Brands.
