Parks and Rec to begin taking reservations Wednesday, Jan. 2

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will begin taking shelter, community center, bandshell and pool reservations for the 2013 year on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Reservations are for the shelter only. The park facilities, restrooms in shelters, and parking lots are for general public use. There may be other activities going on in the park. Contact the Monroe Parks and Recreation office closer to the date of your rental for information on park activities.

The doors to the Parks and Recreation Department will open at 6 a.m. Wednesday to allow people to get out of the cold. Those entering the office should take a number. Staff members will begin taking reservations at 7:30 a.m., so registrants should be back by 7:15 a.m.

Shelters are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Phone reservations are not accepted.

A special event permit is needed if there are more than 200 people attending; there are outside attractions (ie dunk tank, inflatables, etc); there will be a canopy tent; the event is open to the public; or there is admission charged, donations collected or anything being sold.

Special event permits are issued by the city clerk and should be obtained the same day the reservation is made.

If a special event permit is needed, a Certificate of Insurance for $1 million dollars for general liability, naming the City of Monroe as additional insured, is required before a special event permit is issued.

The cost to rent a shelter is $50 which includes a beer permit if needed. For parties more than 200 people, the cost is $65 which also includes a beer permit if needed.

The cost of permit for music or public address system is $10 per day.
