Park and Rec. to hold girls and boys basketball program

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation department will have a girls and boys basketball program for second through fifth grades. Classes will be held 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, from Jan. 21 through March 4 at the Northside gym, 3005 8 1/2 St.

Registrations are due by Thursday, Jan. 17. There will be a boys division and a girls division with teams combined from all eligible grades. The gym will be split into two courts with boys on one half and girls on the other half. Cost for the program is $20 and includes a T-shirt.

The Parks and Recreation department will also be hosting two programs with athletes from the Monroe High School:

- Wrestling with the Cheesmakers will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Monroe High School, 1600 26th St. Participants will meet and do drills with the Cheesemaker wrestlers. Attendees should wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. Everyone will be getting a Campions Champions shirt courtesy of the Breadon Family, in memory of Gavin Breadon. The program is for anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade. The cost is $7. Sign up by Friday, Jan. 11 to get the correct shirt size ordered.

- Basketball with the Cheesemakers will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at Monroe High School. Come and shoot hoops with the Cheesemaker boys and girls basketball teams. Participants should wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes and also bring water bottle. Everyone will receive a Campions Champions shirt courtesy of First National Bank. The program is for anyone in kindergarten through eighth grade. The cost is $7. Sign up by Wednesday, Feb. 13 to get the correct shirt size ordered.
