MONROE — The Monroe Sons of Norwegian Ostestaden Lodge and the Monroe High School AFS Club are co-sponsoring an afternoon visit from the Stoughton Norwegian Dance troupe.
A group of 24 teenagers will entertain with lively traditional Scandinavian folk dances from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Monroe High School gym, 1600 26th St. The group, made up of Stoughton high school students, practices rigorously year-round and performs wearing traditional Norwegian costumes (bunads). Audiences from across the United States have thrilled to their complexly choreographed dances full of fun, humor and gymnastics. Their enthusiasm and energy will take those in attendance back to the Norwegian fjords when such dances were an important way for young people to meet and even court and for older people to celebrate their local culture.
This event is open to the public and is for all ages. Norwegian treats will be served during intermission. Admission to the show is free, but donations will be accepted to help defray expenses for the performance.
