NEW GLARUS — Several talented New Glarus Middle and High School band and choir students earned the distinguished honor of performing with the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) State Honors Music Project during the final week of October.
The WSMA State Honors Project is one of the most prestigious opportunities available to student musicians in Wisconsin, bringing together the state’s top instrumentalists and vocalists for an intensive rehearsal and performance experience under the direction of nationally recognized conductors.
Students from across Wisconsin auditioned last spring, with only a select few chosen for the ensembles. Representing New Glarus School District were:
● Amelia Geib, High School Band, Trumpet
● Donnie Umhoefer, High School Mixed Choir
● Jackson Umhoefer, High School Mixed Choir
● Adayla Babler, Middle Level Band, Flute
● Amelie Miller, Middle Level Band, Bassoon
● Anneliese Ramirez, Middle Level Band, Oboe
● Madeline Austin, Middle Level Choir
These dedicated student musicians spent months preparing challenging repertoire before attending a multi-day rehearsal camp leading up to their performances held in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Music Conference in Madison.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for representing New Glarus at the state level,” said Amy Doefer, Director of Bands at New Glarus Schools. “Being selected for WSMA Honors is an exceptional achievement that recognizes not only their musical talent but also their commitment to hard work and excellence.”
The WSMA State Honors Project provides students with the opportunity to grow as musicians, collaborate with peers from around the state, and perform in a professional-level ensemble experience. The New Glarus School District congratulates these outstanding students for their dedication, artistry, and representation of the district’s strong music program.
