NGSD enhances safety with trauma care kits

NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus School District has taken another step in prioritizing student and staff safety by purchasing new trauma care kits for all district facilities. The kits will be located next to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to ensure that life-saving supplies are accessible during emergencies.

The recommendation to add trauma care kits came from the New Glarus Police Department, who identified them as a critical resource for responding to severe injuries. Each kit contains essential medical supplies designed to stop bleeding and provide immediate care until first responders arrive.

“Having AEDs in our schools has already been a valuable safety measure, and now with the addition of trauma care kits, we are even more prepared to respond in an emergency,” said Jennifer Thayer, Superintendent of the New Glarus School District. “This investment reflects our commitment to student and staff well-being and strengthens our partnership with local law enforcement.”

The placement of the kits in visible, centralized locations next to AED stations ensures that staff, visitors, and emergency responders can quickly locate and use them if needed. District staff will also receive information and training to increase readiness and confidence in using the new equipment.

“Our priority is always safety,” said Jeff Sturdevant, Chief of the New Glarus Police Department. “The addition of trauma care kits provides another layer of preparedness, helping to ensure that schools have the right tools on hand should a crisis occur.”

The New Glarus School District extends its thanks to the New Glarus Police Department for their partnership and guidance in enhancing safety measures throughout district facilities.
