NEW GLARUS — In June 2025 the New Glarus Public Library received an anonymous gift of $10,000 for the acquisition of art for the new library. The donor stipulated that the funds support local and regional artists. With this gift, the Library Board is seeking local artists to create original artworks for the new public library at 26 5th Ave., New Glarus, WI. The Board’s goal is to enhance the building with artwork that will provide a sense of calm, encourage playfulness and creativity, inspire discovery, celebrate community, and foster connections.

Library Board President Daniel Ramirez has this to say, “OPN Architects’ Swiss-inspired design will add so much to the village’s charm and create a vital gathering place.” Construction commenced in June 2025, and the library will open to the public in fall 2026. Architectural plans are visible on the NGPL website.

Located in the heart of downtown, the facility will provide reliable high-speed internet, cutting-edge digital technology, and private spaces for meetings, study, and health monitoring. The design includes quiet reading areas, a children’s programming space, a teen area, a cozy fireplace, a large programming classroom, and an outdoor reading garden. Art will be considered for installation throughout the building, as well as outdoors.

Ramirez says, “The modern facility will enrich the lives of residents of all ages. We’re thrilled to be building this vibrant, inclusive hub for learning, connection, and growth within the community.”

A selection panel of community members, arts professionals, artists, and library representatives will review artists’ proposals. Call for Artists specifications are available on the NGPL website.
