NEW GLARUS - Julie Martin, family and consumer sciences teacher at New Glarus High School and recent graduate of UW-Stevens Point, has been selected as the Wisconsin Association of Family and Consumer Sciences New Achiever Award winner for 2018.
Through her high level of involvement with Family and Career and Community Leaders of America and WAFCS, she has demonstrated potential to make great contributions to the field. She currently serves as an FCCLA adviser and junior adviser and had one of her students competing at the national level last year.
Martin offers high-level coursework, including assistant child care infant and toddler certification and dual credit medical terminology classes which earn credit at both the high school and Madison Area Technical College. She teaches a wide variety of FCS courses and is very involved in professional development. She also speaks about teaching methods and activities she uses at state conferences for both FCS and health sciences.
The New Achiever award was presented at the WAFCS state conference March 2 in Lake Delton. Martin will be entered in the national competition for New Achiever of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 2019.
