NEW GLARUS — New Glarus School District is excited to share the overwhelming success of Summer School Session 1, which wrapped up on June 26. With over 200 students participating, this year’s June program offered a dynamic blend of academic support, creative exploration, and physical activity. All courses were designed to keep students engaged and learning throughout the summer.
Students took part in a wide variety of enrichment courses. Some of those courses were Country School, Woodworking, Get Lost in Space, Diamond Painting, Fabric Weaving, as well as an exciting array of Art classes. Whether students were designing, building, painting, or weaving, creativity and hands-on learning were at the heart of every experience.
In addition to the arts and enrichment offerings, many students chose to enroll in our popular Summer Skills Sharpener courses. These academic-focused classes are designed to help students retain and reinforce their math, and reading skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Session 1 also featured plenty of opportunities to stay active with swimming lessons, Run for Fun, and a variety of outdoor sports. These programs not only helped students stay physically fit, but also promoted teamwork, confidence, and positive peer interactions.
One very unique class from Session 1 was the Therapy Dogs class. Led by Christy Douty, students had the opportunity to work with the therapy dogs that are a part of the school at the New Glarus Home. Students were able to share their love of animals and meet many of the residents. The class sparked many conversations between the residents and students.
Camp Invention was the next opportunity for summer school, which ran from July 7-10.
Session 2 of Summer School will take place July 21-31, and there is still time to register. Families interested in enrolling their students should contact New Glarus Middle School for more information and registration details.
