NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus Public Library is ramping up for a summer reading program for children themed “A Universe of Stories.” Space themed activities and prizes will be provided all summer.

The free program begins June 1 and encourages children to turn in weekly reading logs for prizes like books and passes to the Dane County Fair and Madison Mallards baseball games, then celebrate their progress at special events, including an indoor planetarium, a comedy magician, a circus dogs performance, movies, craft events and a final Star Wars party.

Participation in the New Glarus Public Library’s summer reading program increased 87% from 2017 to 2018.

The reading program is open to children starting at birth through high school. Goals of the program include encouraging parents to read to their young children, older kids to exercise reading skills over the summer and to have a safe space for children to gather.
