NEW GLARUS - Peter D. Fox, town of New Glarus, was named as a citizen member to the council established by Gov. Jim Doyle that provides recommendations and direction to the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance (OJA) regarding local and county Citizen Corps programs. The council is comprised of representatives from fire service, law enforcement, emergency medical services, charitable organizations, local units of government and non-affiliated citizens.

The Citizen Corps program was developed in 2005 to offer volunteer opportunities for citizens to support local fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services and public health agencies prepare for and respond to disasters and large-scale events. Trained volunteers are then mobilized to support first-responder agencies, allowing highly trained full-time personnel to focus on saving lives rather than day-to-day administrative tasks.

Fox currently is executive director of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. He retired as a colonel from the Army National Guard in 2004 after 34 years of active and reserve service, including duty in numerous state emergencies. His last assignment was as assistant deputy adjutant general for readiness and training. Previously, he was an appointee of former Gov. Tommy Thompson and served as secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Employment Relations from 1999 to 2003.
