The Monroe Middle School Nerd Squad is a club open to anyone who is interested in technology. 

The club meets at 7:30 a.m. every other Friday morning in the MMS Makerspace Lab, which they helped design over past years. Nerd Squad opens meetings with any current events in technology and then turns to learning about a specific option in the Makerspace Lab, like how to use the Green Screen, Green Screen app on an iPad and the professional lights, so they can become leaders on this when Mrs. Angela Schmelzer is with classes or at another building. Some students have had enough experience with certain options like Cozmo, LEGO Mindstorms, the Spheros, the Green Screen or 3D Printer to become the leaders in teaching their peers in Nerd Squad while Schmelzer has become the backup troubleshooter when needed. The focus at the middle school level in the Makerspace Lab and in Nerd Squad is to empower students to become leaders and to explore deeper levels of knowledge and experience with specific technologies.
