MONROE - Part of creating a successful museum experience at the National Historic Cheesemaking Center is providing capable, well-trained docents for visitors.
All veteran docents and tour guides, as well as new volunteers, can attend a refresher workshop for NHCC docents at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Time will be allotted for sharing ideas and a question/answer period. A sample tour script outline will be provided for docents to use. Enthusiasm and commitment are the main qualifications needed. The workshop session will be about one hour long.
The goal is to create a docent base that remains an active and valuable asset for the cheesemaking museum and the century-old Imobersteg Farmstead Cheese Factory, located on the campus.
Anyone who feels comfortable speaking in public, enjoys sharing the stories of early cheesemaking and cheesemakers, and is willing to volunteer a few hours of time, can participate.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring friends who may be interested.
Call executive director Donna Douglas at 608-325-4636 with questions or for more information.
