MONROE — The national small business movement, Independent We Stand, today announced the quarterfinalists, including Main Street Monroe, in the 2021 America’s Main Streets “Road to Recovery” contest. As the backbone of our cities and towns, Main Streets play an important role in local economies and serve as community pillars, bringing people together when many have been apart. The economic vitality of Main Street Monroe is one way to continue on the “Road to Recovery” in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Independent We Stand invites the public to take action and play a role in the survival of Main Streets by voting online for their favorite quarterfinalist and moving a deserving Main Street one step closer to the cash grand prize of $25,000.

Main Street Monroe is a locally funded, volunteer driven 501(c)3 non-profit that handles community development in the historic district of downtown Monroe. Serving as an advocate for the downtown neighborhood, priorities include historic preservation, events, tourism, and, especially, small business assistance, it has been nationally accredited every year since 2015. As part of its COVID-19 response efforts, Main Street Monroe has raised over $120,000 for its businesses through LIVE! virtual shopping nights and a double dollars gift certificate program. Stores kept every penny while Main Street covered all processing and promotional fees. Another round of LIVE! shows are currently happening. Main Street Monroe is currently in its 16th year.

“This is really next level amazing. We do so much and it’s all because of the volunteers. We’re small enough that we adapt and really everything in the last years has been about adapting. If I could, I would thank every person who voted to get us to this stage. I especially want to thank Stephani King, owner of Edelweiss Gifts for nominating us,” said Jordan Nordby, Executive Director of Main Street Monroe.

More than 494,000 total votes were cast for 216 nominees. The 2021 quarterfinalists include Jacksonville Main Street in Jacksonville, FL to Hudson, MA.
