BLANCHARDVILLE - At 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, Ancestra will be singing heart-centered, spirited songs at River Valley's monthly Coffee House Night. Free admission, but free will offering taken for the musicians.
Ancestra consists of Carol Harm, Kathryn Ripp, and Lauranne Bailey.
Their a cappella style ranges in influence from blues, rock, country, gospel and classical. They occasionally mix instruments here and there to add new flavor to their songs.
She spent over a decade singing with Unity Choir and also sings spiritually-based music with the Unichicks. She began writing music in 2003.
Ripp, a third-generation singer, has been vocalizing since 1975 in various ensembles. She also sings with Uncle Stan's A Cappella Band, which includes her husband and son.
Bailey sang with a variety of local rock and country bands throughout Dane County since 1979. She stepped out of the club circuit in 1997 and has been vocally challenging herself with blending, rhythmic sounds, jazz improv and gospel.
