MTG theatre camp to fly to Neverland with Peter Pan, JR. production
Peter Pan MTG

MONROE — The Monroe Theatre Guild invites the stateline area to join the Lost Boys and never grow up when the participants of MTG’s Theatre Camp 2025 perform the musical Peter Pan, JR. Based on J. M. Barrie’s enchanting play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. Peter Pan, JR. is a modern version of this timeless tale about the adventures of a mischievous boy.

This is MTG’s fourth year of theatre camp. This year, the week of August 4-8 will see 50 campers participating in theatre games and exploring all the aspects of a live theatre production. Camp is divided into two sessions. The morning session is for youth ages 8-11, and the afternoon session is for youth ages 12-18. At the end of camp week, the campers present plays and skits to highlight all the exciting activities they took part in during camp week.

This year, campers are exploring the fantastical on stage, using Peter Pan as their guiding light. They’ll discover themes of magic and fantasy and find ways to make the storyland come alive on stage. With generous financial support from the Monroe Morning Optimists, the 2025 camp directors, Katie Landmark and Joe Leverton, chose to do a full-on musical for the finale of camp week. Peter Pan, JR. features the p.m. campers in the primary roles, with casting and rehearsals starting in July.

The a.m. campers will present their own “Revue” of skits on August 8 at 6 p.m. and August 9 at 1 p.m. The “A.M. Campers Revue” is free to the public. The a.m. campers can also participate in selected performances of Peter Pan, JR. live on stage. Three of the performances for Peter Pan, JR. are ticketed performances, with one free-by-invitation-only performance for family members the afternoon of August 9.

Public performances of Peter Pan, JR. are at 7 p.m. August 8-9 and at 2 p.m. on August 10 at Monroe Theatre Guild, 910 16th Avenue, Monroe. The public is encouraged to attend these performances to witness and applaud the hard work and talent of these young actors. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased on the MTG website at monroetheatre.com, or by calling 608-325-1111, and at the door before each performance.

In Peter Pan, JR. Wendy, Michael and John Darling meet and befriend Peter Pan when the mysterious boy and a fairy named Tinker Bell enter their nursery in search of Peter’s lost shadow.

Peter whisks his new friends away to Neverland, an island with “hardly any space between one adventure and the other.” There, Peter introduces the Darling children to his fellow Lost Boys, children who — like Peter — never grow up. The crew launches into a great adventure where they encounter Brave Girls, led by the incredible Tiger Lily, and Pirates, led by the dreaded Captain Hook. Challenges ensue when the Darling children are ensnared in Captain Hook’s sinister plan to seek revenge on Peter.

Peter Pan, JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI, 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019 Phone: 212-541-4684 Fax: 212-397-4684 www.MTIShows.com.
