MONROE — MTG will present “The Bad Seed” Oct. 4 to 13.

This well-known 1956 film was first adapted for the Broadway stage by Maxwell Anderson, based on the novel by William March. Suzann Holland of Monroe is directing. The talented cast of local actors includes Carolyn Page, Laurie Knoke, Jeff Ditzenberger, Kate Leverton, Chris Vestin, Andy Rocheleau, Angela Saunders, Genevieve Kundert, Jonah Levia and Jerry Bredeson. Playing Rhoda, the little girl with dark secrets, is 9-year-old Amelia Kister, daughter of Ethan and Michelle Kister.

“The Bad Seed” prompts the question of whether nature or nurture rules a person’s behavior. The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel Kenneth and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. On the surface Rhoda is sweet, charming, loved by her parents and admired by her elders. But when one of Rhoda’s schoolmates mysteriously drowns at a school picnic, Mrs. Penmark fears her daughter is somehow involved. As Christine discovers the dark secrets about her only child, she also uncovers the horrifying truth of her own past.

“The Bad Seed” is part of the Colony Brands performance series and opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 on the Colony Brands Stage at Monroe Theatre Guild, 910 16th Ave. An Opening Night Reception starts at 6 p.m. Six performances will be presented at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Oct. 4, 5, 11 and 12, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 and 13.
