mtg show

MONROE — Monroe Theatre Guild will present “Anne of Green Gables,” June 7 to June 16.

The play adapted by Peter DeLaurier, based on the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, is being directed by Katie McIlvanie of Monroe. The cast includes Melissa Schnepper of Evansville as Marilla Cuthbert, David Bristow of Monroe as Matthew Cuthbert and Sonia Tomasiewicz of Monroe, as the spirited redheaded orphan, Anne Shirley. Completing the cast of Anne’s bosom friends and kindred spirits are Skylar Morse, Brittney Vine, Cora Rowan, Lilly Cherney, Josiah Leverton, Jack Mann, and playing multiple adult roles, Kate Leverton.

The popular classic takes place in the quiet town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Aging brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, send to an orphanage for a boy to help on the farm.

To everyone’s surprise, a mix up brings them romantic, hot-headed and energetic 12-year-old Anne “with an E” Shirley. Over the course of five years she wins their hearts and turns the stodgy, rural Canadian community into a bright world of “kindred spirits.”

“Anne of Green Gables” will open at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the MTG theatre at 910 16th Avenue, Monroe, featuring an opening night reception at 6 p.m. Six performances will be presented. Fridays and Saturdays, June 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. June 9 and 16.

Reserved seating tickets are now on sale at monroetheatre.com and at the Monroe Arts Center box office Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour before each performance.
