The May featured business for the Monticello Chamber of Commerce was The Potting Shed.

The Potting Shed greenhouse is in its 13th year of providing plants for southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and beyond. A family-owned business since 2006, The Potting Shed in Monroe is small but growing.

The Spotts family originated in Monroe, Michigan, where their extended family still owns greenhouses. Since moving to Wisconsin in 1991, owner Sandy Spotts would go back annually to get her plants from her sister. She decided to explore growing her own plants, and The Potting Shed greenhouse idea was born.

Though Sandy is the meticulous tender of plants, her daughter, Amy Lewis, is a key element to the potted creations, flower planning and overall business organization. With the help of her daughters in law, Tracy and Amanda Spotts, the crew runs an efficient operation starting in mid-April to mid-June. The husbands and even the grandchildren are also helpers during planting, pot preparation, cleaning and support throughout the year.
