MONTICELLO - The Monticello High School Class of 1960 held their 50th Class Reunion in August and made donations in memory of deceased classmates. A donation in memory of Gwen (Broge) Ehlert was given by her husband, Melvin Ehlert. Donations were also given by Bob Faith, Joanne Marty, Nancy Briggs and Karen Babler in memory of the following deceased class members: Gwen (Broge) Ehlert, Susan (Disch) Reiss, Richard Fernstaedt, Larry Flesher, Barb (Gempler) Escher, Dennis Rinehardt, Loretta (Schmid) Briggs, Harvey Disch, Sr., and Jon Lehnherr. Donations have also been received from Robin Reuter family and friends in memory of Belinda Reuter, who served on the Monticello Foundation Board of Directors from 1994 to 2000. Monticello's Jim Zweifel, who was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Hall of Fame this year, has established the "Jim Zweifel-In memory of deceased basketball teammates and coaches" fund to honor the memory of Don Hoesly, Ken Kundert, Bill Hefty, Steve Boyum, Don Karlen, Ron Schutt, Ronnie Hilliard, Coach John Ponyscianyi, Coach Whitey Hill, Coach Jim Hennsey, and Principal Herman Becker. Contributions for this fund have been received from the following individuals: Bob and Donna Durtschi; Jack and Helen Ponyicsanyi; Rosanda Richards-Ellsworth, Richard Feller, Judith Hoesly, Wanda Feller, Phil and Sharon Knobel; Armin and Ginny Daubert; Art and Nancy Studer; and Elmer Lemon. Contributions are still coming in and may be sent to the Monticello Foundation, PO Box 636, Monticello, WI 53570.
Since 1995, the Monticello Foundation has awarded $96,450 to Monticello graduates and made possible by the community's continued financial support.
The Monticello Foundation will be holding their Annual Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library. All members are welcome to attend.
