BARABOO - The Wisconsin Holstein Association will hold its annual Junior Holstein Convention in coordination with the Clark County Junior Holstein Association Wednesday, Dec. 28 through Friday, Dec. 30 in Eau Claire. Youth from across the state will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in multiple categories.
The Distinguished Junior Member recipients are ages 17 to 21, Younger Member Recognition (YMR) recipients are members of the association ages 13 to 16 and the 12 and Under Award recipients are members of the association ages 12 and younger that have excelled in their Junior Holstein projects. They will be recognized at the awards banquet on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 29.
A Local Younger Member Recognition honoree is 14-year-old Ryan Smith, the son of Randall and Jane Smith and a freshman at Monticello High School. He lives on a 240-acre dairy farm, Quad-R Holsteins, with his parents and sisters Kristen, Nicole, and Tanya. He is an active member of Washington Center 4-H Club, Monticello FFA and Green County Junior Holsteins. His dairy activities include dairy bowl, dairy judging and showing cattle at county, district and state shows. Smith is also involved with church youth group, cross country, basketball, band and enjoys hunting, shooting trap and helping on the farm.
