Monroe Woman's Club collecting used bras to help women internationally

MONROE - The Monroe Woman's Club is collecting gently used or new bras for a project of the state Woman's Club organization.

Bras are being sent to the Free the Girls organization to ship to countries such as El Salvador, Mozambique and Uganda to help start cottage businesses for women to get them out of prostitution and sex trafficking so that they can support themselves and their families.

The group will accept any bras - sports, strapless, regular strap, nursing, or prosthesis. To donate, give bras to any Woman's Club member who will bring them to a meeting or leave them at Carla Hartwig's house, 303 26th Ave., Monroe.

The project will continue through May 15 and be taken to the state convention in Eau Claire from May 18 to 20.

Ending human trafficking is an International General Federation of Women's Club goal. For more information, visit Free the Girls website. The organization is also featured in the CNN documentary "Mozambique or Bust."
