MONROE - The Monroe Swiss Singers will be hosting their 49th Annual Swissfest on Sunday, starting at 2 p.m. in the Grand Hall of Turner Hall of Monroe, 1217 17th Avenue.
The Monroe Swiss Singers mixed choir will take the stage along with the Jodlerklub New Glarus and the Männerchor New Glarus to present an afternoon of authentic Swiss folk music. Guest performers include the Squeezebox Night Accordion Ensemble; teen yodeler Cammi Ganshert; solo alphornist John Knechtenhofer of western Missouri; zither-player Jeff Palenik of Blanchardville; accordionists John Waelti and Heinz Mattmann; and the Green County Alphorns.
In addition to Swiss folk music, the program will include a special presentation and the performance of two American folk songs, "Oh, Shenandoah" and "This Land is Your Land," sung by the Monroe Swiss Singers.
Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 in advance, available at the Turner Hall Ratskeller Restaurant or at Orange Kitten Yarns on the south side of Monroe's Square. Admission includes the program and a dance afterward, with music by the Keith Zweifel Band. The Ratskeller Restaurant will also be open following the program.
