Monroe pool opens Monday

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department announced that the Monroe Public Pool will be opening on Monday.

From Monday to Friday, public swim will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and adult swim will be from 5:15 to 6 p.m. due to Monroe schools being in session. Public swim in June and July for the weekdays will be 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.

New this year on weekends in June, July and August, public swim will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. For weekdays in June and July, adult swim will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and at 5:15 to 6 p.m. On weekends, adult swim will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Starting on Aug. 1, the pool hours change. Weekday and weekend hours are the same. Public swim will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7 p.m., while adult swim will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Wading pool hours are different than the hours for the regular pool. On weekdays from June 16 through July 3, July 7 through July 25, and July 28 through Aug. 8, the wading pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Any other days, the wading pool will be open from 1 to 8 p.m.

Season swim passes are available at the parks department. The following passes are available:

• Family Swim Pass is $90 for residents and $103 for non-residents. Family swim passes are limited just to immediate family living under one roof. Only six family members are allowed on a pass, for each additional member it will be an additional $5. A family may add a babysitter onto their family pass for an additional $10.

• Family wading pool pass is $65 for residents and $78 for non-residents.

• Individual swim pass is $48 for a resident and $61 for a non-resident.

• Senior citizen swim pass is $40 for a resident and $53 for a non-resident.

• Senior citizen couple passes are available for $70 for residents and $83 non-residents.

Swim Lessons for levels one through six participants will meet from 11 to 11:50 a.m. Monday through Friday, July 28 through Aug. 8. The cost to participate is $30 for residents and $40 non-residents.

Infant/toddler parent swim lessons are for children 6 months to 4 years old who have little to no previous experience in the water. Each child must be accompanied into the water by an adult or a sibling going into ninth grade or older. The following skills are taught in the infant and toddler class: helping the child get into the water and feel comfortable, blowing bubbles, going under, bobbing, dipping, kicking legs, floating on the stomach and back, floating alone, arm movements and jumping in.

Infant/Toddler/Parent swim lessons will meet Monday through Friday. The Level A group, for children ages 6 months through 4 years, will meet June 23-27 and the Level B group, for 1-year-olds through 4-year-olds, will meet July 21-25 from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the outdoor pool. The cost is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

Preschool Swim Lessons are for children ages 3 to 5 years who do not fear the water but are not tall enough to stand on the bottom. Parents do not accompany the child in the water. Four sessions of preschool swim lessons are available and are June 16-26, July 7-17, July 14-24, and July 28 through Aug. 7 from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the outdoor pool. The cost to register is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents.
