Monroe Parks and Recreation looking to fill program openings

MONROE - Monroe Parks and Recreation has openings in some of its one-day programs.

Parents Night Out/Kids Pajama Party will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the Community Center. Kids can bring their blankets, pillows and stuffed animals while wearing their favorite pajamas during a pizza party. Games and activities will be available before kids settle into watching a movie. The program is for kids only, and is for children ages 5 through 12. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. and the pizza party is at 5:45 p.m. The cost for the program is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

Princess Ball, sponsored by the Monroe Lions Club, still has a few openings. Those who attend can dress as their favorite princess and come to the ball. Children will create crafts, play princess games, have their face painted, dance and see if the princess slipper fits their foot to dance with the prince. Jane the artist, sponsored by the Monroe Lions Club, will be there to paint faces like a pretty princess going to the ball. The program is for girls ages 3 through 8 and will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Turner Hall. Cost is $10 for residents or $15 for non-residents.

Toadly Wild, sponsored by the Monroe Morning Optimists, is a free petting zoo for children ages 4 through 12 years old. The event will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Twining South shelter. The program is designed as an introduction to the world of reptiles. Children get to see snakes, frogs and an alligator and learn what makes each animal special, where it comes from, what it eats and how it moves. The petting zoo is free, but attendees must register as space is limited.

The Down and Dirty program allows participants to get completely messy and slightly gross with the games and challenges. Those who attend should wear old clothes or a swimsuit and bring a towel because they are guaranteed to become messy. The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Recreation South shelter for children ages 5 through 12. The cost for the program is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

Those who participate in the Old McDonald Had a Farm program will visit Dan Rieder's farm. Parents will drop their children off at Dan Rieder's farm, W5478 County DR, Monroe. Parents can stay. The program is for boys and girls ages 5 through 8 and will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 14. The cost for the program is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

Angelina Ballerina Tutu Party, sponsored by Colony Brands, will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Community Center. Those who attend will first hear the story of Angelina Ballerina, the mouse who loved to dance and then will make fun tutus, play games and learn a ballet dance. Jane the artist will be there to paint faces like a pretty Angelina the Ballerina. The program is for girls ages 3 through 12. The cost, which includes a tutu to take home, is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.

The Zooriffic Party, sponsored by Kiwanis Club, will allow children the chance to touch and see some animals like a chameleon, wallaby, kinkajou, coati, armadillo, fennee fox and a chinchilla. The presenter will talk about where the animals live and what they eat. The program is from 1:15 to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Community Center. Registration is required as space is limited.
