Monroe Optimists essay contest deadline is Feb. 1

MONROE - The Monroe Optimists sponsored essay contest is open to students under the age of 19 who have yet to graduate from high school. The deadline for entries will be Saturday, Feb. 1.

The topics of the essay is "How Dreams Lead to Success." The essay must be typed and double spaced and contain at least 700 words but no more than 800. Every word, but the title, is counted. All contestants must present a birth certificate or passport a the time of submitting their essays.

Local first place winners will be awarded $300. Second place winners will receive $200 and third place winners will receive $100. Only the first place winner will be entered into the district competition, where they will compete for a $2,500 scholarship and a plaque.
