Monroe: Midday Masterworks set for Wednesday

MONROE - "Totally Toccata - II" is the title of the first quarterly organ mini-recital of the 2008 Midday Masterworks series, scheduled for 12:15 - 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, at the United Methodist Church of Monroe, 2227 4th Street, and repeated again that same day from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church, 1760 14th Street, Monroe. As a continuation of a toccata program from the 2007 series, Deborah Krauss Smith, organist/director of music ministries at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe, will play a number of different styles of toccatas written for organ by Daniel Gawthrop, Johann Eberlin, Alberto Ginastera, Johann Pachelbel, and Theodore Dubois.

Now in its seventh year featuring the 3-manual, 39-rank Berghaus pipe organ at the United Methodist Church of Monroe, the 2008 Midday Masterworks series is adding a new feature - a reprise program - played at St. Victor Catholic Church on the new 3-manual Matthew Ronald Buholzer Memorial Pipe Organ. Both programs are free and open to the public, with free-will donations accepted for each church's pipe organ maintenance fund.
