MONROE - Monroe Manor recognizes the many community members and residents that volunteer each year to help make the Manor a great place to live. The Volunteers breakfast brunch was a great success.

Manor Volunteer of the Year is Wilma Hanson. She is very active in the facility, folding laundry weekly, helping with folding newsletters, cleaning cupboards, planting flowers, sorting magazines and simply being a happy face when people come to the Manor. She is always ready to socialize with anyone.

Community Volunteers this year are Mary and Bill Flisram. When Bernice Kingdon became a resident of Monroe Manor, she continued the special needs church service with her students as she had done at Grace Lutheran Church for many years. She needed help with the service and Mary and Bill became her assistants - getting church bulletins and things she needed. They met in the Manor's activity room on Sunday mornings. As time went on, residents asked if they could also meet with Mrs. Kingdon and her students. Soon the service was moved to one of the dining rooms as the activity room became too small for the numbers desiring to attend. Over the years, the number of residents attending the church service varies from eight to 18 according to their health or other plans for the day. Services are held on the second through the fifth Sunday of each month, including holidays. Grace Lutheran Church provides 35 bulletins each weekend to be given to residents in their rooms if they like as well as to be used during the church service.

Cyndy Miller, activities director, and Cori Steitz, activities assistant, thank all the volunteers for their participation throughout the year.
