Monroe library showing teen movie tonight

The Monroe Public Library Youth Services Department invites area teens to bring a friend to the next Monroe Public LibraryTeenTech event where they will step back in time to the year 10,000 B.C. and enjoy the newest DVD release by Roland Emmerich, the director of "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow."

The film will be begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, and should be over by 5:20 p.m. The library's meeting room is equipped with surround sound and a big screen for a theater-like experience. Students are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks to enjoy while they view the movie in air-conditioned comfort.

Starring Steven Strait and Camilla Belle, the movie has been described as an awesome adventure about a time when mammoths shook the earth and mystical spirits shaped human fates. Filled with special effects, it is an eye-filling tale of the first hero who sets out on a bold trek to rescue his kidnapped beloved and fulfill his prophetic destiny.

During his quest he battles a saber-toothed tiger and prehistoric predators, crosses uncharted realms, forms an army, and discovers an advanced lost civilization.

The movie is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sequences of intense action and violence. The audience will be strictly limited to students entering sixth grade and older.

Metamorphosis at Your Library, the summer reading program for middle and high school students continues through August. Students entering sixth grade and up are invited to read for fun a little each day and earn prize coupons. Readers may stop by the children's room desk to register for the program. Prizes may be seen in the second floor display case.
