Monroe: Library seeking VolunTEENS

MONROE - The Monroe Public Library invites students entering seventh grade and older to become library VolunTEENs this summer and help with summer library programs.

In June and July, the library will host Wild Wednesday workshops and performer programs for gradeschool students centered on the theme, Catch the Reading Bug. VolunTEENs may help children at the Buggy Fun and Diggin' In the Dirt hands-on workshops, guide groups of children to workshop stations, create decorations, or usher at programs presented by professional performers.

Teens get a "first try" at all the crafts and activities and are often called upon to help the presenters. The summer ends with an ice cream sundae party for all the VolunTEENs

Students learn real life work skills by joining the VolunTEENs. They are expected to arrive on time, present a positive attitude, stay focused on their jobs, and work together to make a meaningful experience for youngsters.

VolunTEEN applications are available now at the Children's Room desk of the Monroe Public Library. The application needs to be completed and signed by both the teen and a parent or legal guardian who agrees to help the teen be responsible for the hours they agree to work. VolunTEEN sign-up sheets are located in the Children's Room. Students are asked to check the family's calendar before signing up to help with programs to be sure they can help at the programs in which they are interested. For more information regarding programs for children and families contact the Monroe Public Library at (608) 328-7010.
