Monroe: Huber, Schwitz win Citizenship Awards

MONROE - Two Monroe High School graduates in the class of 2008, Joseph Huber and Emma Schwitz, received Citizenship Awards.

The Citizenship Award, given since 1928, is based upon scholarship, character, leadership, and cooperation. The selection committee is made up of faculty, administration and community members.

Joseph Huber is the son of Robert and Nancy Huber. He has been a member of Monroe FFA Chapter for four years, was the 2006-07 Student Advisor, served as Chapter President for 2007-08, received the Star Ag Replacement award, Star Green Hand award, was a member of the Land Judging Team and represented Wisconsin in Oklahoma City, and worked on Stage Craft/Lights for one year.

Athletically he has competed in football for four years, and received the Most Improved Player award and special teams player.

Huber is involved in many extra-curricular/leadership activities which include: Browntown Busy Beavers 4-H for three years and Junior Leaders 4-H for two years.

He has worked at T & B's Performance and Machine for one year and at the Wand Farms for one year.

His future plans include attending University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to major in conservation with a professional goal of becoming a Conservation Warden.

Emma Schwitz is the daughter of Michal and Susan Schwitz. She has been a member of National Honor Society for two years, Science Club for two years, Octagon Club for four years, Diversity Club for three years, Spanish Club for two years, Prom Committee for one year and Future Business Leaders of America for three years.

Athletically, she had been involved in volleyball for two years and softball for two years.

Her community activities include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters for four years, Health Youth apprenticeship for two years, Optimist of the Month, Badger Girls State Representative and served on the El Salvador Mission Trip. Schwitz has worked at Pleasant View Nursing Home as a food service worker and Certified Nursing Assistant and currently at the Monroe Clinic as a youth apprentice/Phlebotomy Clinical.

Her future plans include attending Butler College majoring in the medical field with the professional goal of being a medical assistant.
