The Monroe Arts Center and Madison Opera are providing discounted tickets to area residents for the upcoming Madison Opera production of "Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor" at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at the Overture Center in Madison.
A free talk is scheduled at 7 p.m.
In its much-anticipated Madison Opera premiere, this spectacular showcase for vocal artistry features a plot filled with tragic love, and family feuds.
Set in Scotland in the 1700s, this Madison Opera production features Metropolitan Opera conductor John Keenan leading an international cast that includes Luz del Alba, Robert Breault, Quinn Kelsey, and Madison favorite, Kyle Ketelsen.
Breath-taking costumes, sets and scenery, lighting, choreography, and the whole Madison Symphony Orchestra are all part of the show.
The story is based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott: On the moors of 18th-century Scotland, a beautiful young girl is forced into an arranged marriage, but she's in love with her family's arch-rival.
This performance will be sung in Italian with projected English translations.
