MONROE - Green County Development Corporation will host a special quarterly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Monticello House Restaurant, 149 Main St., Monticello.
"One of our priorities in 2007 was more information to local community leaders," explained Anna Schramke, executive director of GCDC. "The quarterly meetings are meant to give local leaders an opportunity to network and discuss issues they may have in common. In addition we provide a summary of projects we've been working on."
At the meeting, several projects will be discussed, including a brief report on the status of the 2007 Business Retention and Expansion Survey. The 2008 Workplan will also be outlined. In addition, Don Schneider, Monticello Area Historical Society president, will present, "Back to the Future: Entrepreneurs in Monticello."
As the focus for economic growth throughout the United States focuses on entrepreneurs, Schneider will take us back to a time when entrepreneurship was a way of life. What can we learn about the economics that follow a strong entrepreneur base? How can we as communities encourage more entrepreneurs who will create strong enterprises such as Swiss Heritage Cheese and Gempeler's Supermarket? Schneider's talk will be followed by a tour of the new Monticello Historical Museum, across the street from the Monticello House.
Refreshments will be provided. Reservations are requested in order to ensure that there are enough handouts. All interested persons are invited to attend.
